Gelehrsamkeit, Wissenschaft and Forschung

Abstract terms like the these sound odd when translated as such in certain contexts and a concrete noun often sounds better in English. For example, 'Die Gelehrsamkeit hat sich daran gewöhnt, von einem Pseudo-Dionysus zu sprechen' (Rudolf Steiner, lecture of March 25, 1907) translates more naturally into 'Scholars have become used to referring...' rather than 'Scholarship ...'. In a similar context 'Die Wissenschaft ...' can become 'Scientists ...' and 'Die Forschung ...' is 'Researchers ...'.
